Our current preoccupation with zombies and vampires is easy to explain. They're two sides of the same coin, addressing our fascination with sex, death and food. They're both undead, they both feed on us, they both pass on some kind of plague and they can both be killed with specialist techniques - a stake through the heart or a disembraining. But they seem to have become palorized. Vampires are undead of choice for girls, and zombies for boys. Vampires are cool, aloof, beautiful, brooding creatures of the night. Typical moody teenage boys, basically. Zombies are dumb, brutal, ugly and mindlessly violent. Which makes them also like typical teenage boys, I suppose.

Toeic 終於考完了, 這次去考還是沒有完全寫完, 剩下十題.

剛剛看了一篇文章, 賺很多錢可以得到快樂嗎?

如果痛苦到快樂是用分數計算, 最痛苦是-10;最快樂是+10.

那有錢只能讓你不用擔心房貸, 小孩學費, 生活開銷. 有錢可以讓你從-7or-8拉回0. 但是有錢並不能讓你從0變成+7 or +10.

有一個小學老師在偏遠的鄉里教書，  這天，他來到自己班上的教室， 問班上的小朋友：

「你們大家有沒有討厭的人啊」 小朋友們想了想，有的未作聲，有的則猛力地點點頭。

攸關人類存亡，拯救地球所剩黃金十年的第三年（英王儲警告，拯救地球只剩９０個月）；我們需要讓更多人認清地球的現況，亦需讓已經知道的人，有責任與使命向更多人宣導；當然最最重要的，就是當我們都知道後，定要在生活上落實所有節能減碳的動作，因為減碳不能成為麻痹人人思想行為的口號，它真正需要的，是有他．有您．有我共同時時的關注與實踐！

最近看到兩個令我感觸良多的理論, 很有意思.

1. 無法區分有能力和沒有能力的人才時, 有能力的人會逐漸離開公司, 只有沒有能力的人會留在原來的公司. 在經濟學中, 這種現象稱為逆向選擇(adverse selection)現象.

2. 雇用方沒有能力去觀察被雇用方的行為時, 被雇用方會付出低於目標水準的努力. 在經濟學中這種現象稱為道德風險(moral hazard)

  可能對大眾捷運系統要說的話都傾向於負面, 而且可能甚至是無法在這本雜誌中印出來的話. 的確, 搭乘捷運從家中往返至辦公室或學校, 對大多數人來說激發出來的會是報怨與汙辱性修辭多過於讚美. 在今天這篇文章中我們試著改變這個印象, 相信大多數運輸系統都有一些好的特質. 任何同意台北捷運系統的人一定會同意這個說法, 但是即使像紐約地鐵那麼老舊的系統也值得愛惜, 因此大蘋果紐約市是今天我們這一課開始探討的地方.

  Much of what could be said about Mass Rapid Transit System tends toward negative and might even be unprintable in these pages. Indeed, riding the rails to the office or school and back home again inspires more grumbling and epithets than praise with most folks.    七月份美國報紙報導十一歲的兒童Moshe Kai Cavalin 以平均分數滿分從大學畢業. 他入學於東洛杉磯社區大學, 兩年制的學校, 並且獲得副文學士學位. Cavalin在美國出生, 有位台灣母親和巴西人父親, 他的數學表現突出, 並喜歡天文物理. 他申請的四年制大學之中有史丹佛. 他的母親簡珊蒂說"我試著將我的兒子送到小學就讀,但是發現他學習的太快, 在課堂上常常沒事做. 所以我決定在家裡教他." Cavalin會彈鋼琴, 會打中國拳術, 並且學習法語, 中文, 西班牙文.

   數世紀以來天才兒童就被特載於媒體報導之中. 對此評論家說, 集結媒體關注, 與同輩人相連的困難, 和高期望通常會為天才兒童的後期人生製造問題. 有一個很好的例子, Adragon De Mello(出生於1976), 當他再十一歲就取得四年制大學的學位(主修計算數學), 他創下了一個美國的記錄. 他的父親定下一個超高的目標, 要他兒子在十六歲時成為諾貝爾得獎人, 並且不間斷的督促他.

   儘管擁有大學學位, De Mello還是選擇以化名去國中高中上學, 他敘述說"很棒 因為沒有人知道我" 今日De Mello在家得寶大型家居用品購物中心作一份簡單的工作, 而且沒有計畫要從事任何專業職業.

  八月初一名俄國女子在參觀羅浮宮時, 她將手伸進她的包包, 不是要取出一個茶杯向世界最有名的畫像敬酒. 取而代之, 這個茶杯成為這位心理失衡的女子向這幅年代有五世紀的畫作扔擲的拋物體, 這幅法語稱是"La Jaconde蒙娜麗莎的微笑"的畫作脫險連一條裂痕也沒有. 如果這個事件以前, 在參觀羅浮宮不能帶的東西名單上沒有茶杯, 茶杯現在差不多可以肯定在此名單上.

  When the Russian woman reached into her handbag on a visit to Louvre in early August, she didn't pull out a teacup to toast the world's most famous  portrait. Instead, the teacup became a projectile that the mentally imbalanced women hurled at the five century old painting. La Jaconde, as the painting is refered to in Franch, emerged with nary a nick. If teacups were not on the list of items that visitors could not take into the Louvre before that episode, they are almost certainly on there now.

  In 1991, Magic Johnson's dream career came to an abrupt end, when he tested positve for HIV. With the help of drugs and vigorous daily exercise, he remains free of AIDS. He would not only land on his feet, but his feet also hit the ground running. After a brief NBA comeback attempt, he left basketball for good and, beginning in 1995, entered the world of business.
